Now that I have the JGC, I can’t argue a reason to keep the Amanti. Well there is one reason, when I’m around the thing I love it. But currently I don’t even put 6,000 miles a year on it. I have a pretty lengthy story about how the Kia Amanti turned me into a car enthusiast, but I’ll share that another time.

Do you ladies and gents have a vehicle that “logically” you shouldn’t still own but can’t let go of?

So far the plan is still to keep it until I either find a used Cadenza, XJ, or CLS (just depending on the deal, configuration, value, and lifestyle).

Feel free to ask any questions. I will say that reactions in real life are the opposite of what the online reactions would have you think. It really is a pleasure to own (but stupid difficult to work on).

No way! My only issue with the vehicle was the ride was too isolated and the grip was way too low. I had to go up to 20s because it took 245-35r20 tires to give me the road feel and handling the vehicle needed in order to be engaging. As for the wheel design, it’s unique without being avant garde. Why not live a bit? It’s an Amanti not an *insert anything else*

“I have a pretty lengthy story about how the Kia Amanti turned me into a car enthusiast, but I’ll share that another time.”

That’s a story I want to read.

I had a car I didn’t want to sell like that once. Most consider it a turd too. It was a 1991 Chevy Lumina “base” 3.1. I bought it from a friend in amazing condition, tossed a cheap set of aftermarket 16” wheels on it, stuffed a “system” in it and drove the balls off of it for three years. Then it sat for a year because I picked up a 1992 Lumina Z34. Eventually the 91 was stripped of it’s rims and system and sold to another friend. He drove it for 3 years and decided to sell it because the fuel regulator crapped out. Well, the price was too good to pass up and I bought it back. And, again, new wheels and tires, no “system” this time as I was passed 30 and didn’t care about that anymore.

Still with me?

O.K.

Being married and with a “new” house the Lumina was perfect. We drove the balls off of it again for 3 years. Then sold it to the Niece of the friend who bought it and sold it back. She decided it wasn’t a cool College car and was about to trade it in on an Eclipse. I got wind of this and didn’t want my Lumina going to auction for a $250 trade in so I bought it back.

Again.

I eventually sold it to another friend that was moving to Florida. Six months later I started getting letters about retrieving my Lumina from Impound. My last “friend” never transferred the damn Title.

It still depresses me to think about it.

I’m slowly trying to get Oppo ready by getting them accustomed to seeing the car. Then I’ll tell all the stories. First person to ever gloat over a Kia. But now I love the brand just as much as I’m into Maserati, Jaguar, Porsche, and Mercedes.

I just sold my 2006 Kia Rio. It had over 267,000 miles on it and only the driver seat because I went through a “weight reduction” phase (I personally lost 37 lbs in the name of better acceleration, perhaps another story I’ll share). Well one of the mechanics offered to buy it, so I sold it to him. Less than a week later I find out that the vehicle had been impounded. The trooper left this world without the ceremony he deserved.

BBS wheels are nice on performance cars. Every vehicle segment has a reason for certain trends. You’ll open up quite a bit as you get older. I still want to VIP a G37 and get a lowrider truck. But also wouldn’t touch change anything on a Boxster Spyder or XJR.

That’s impressive!

Oppo is always ready. Willing? That’s a gray area..

I actually think the Amanti is quite handsome if a bit generic. Do you have a pre or post facelift variant?

I logically never should of bought my S600. $3000 dollar repair bills aren't very fun. Do I regret it though ? Not one bit.

Pre. I chose to pass on the 60 more horsepower in the 07 to 09 amantis. I think the 04 to 06 styling and features were better and will age better (still don’t think the same year E-class, S-types, or Town Cars will hold up as well).

I would agree on the lower horsepower tradeoff but personally prefer the post lifted rear, as bland as it is...

Kinja'd!!!

These lights seem a little less elegant than the ones above although it really is a matter of taste...still like your Amanti though, they’re not all that common and I’m all for beige quirkiness!

Kinja'd!!!

Side note: You should slap some “Opirus” badges on it sometime. Confuse the hell out of other road users and the next owner as well if you end up selling it after all :D

Thought about it until I remembered half the reason I bought it was because I never heard of an Amanti. In person the old rear looks really good and unique, especially at night. The post lift is too similar to jags and lincolns which people remember better than the front ends. But like you said, tastes vary. I STILL think the 2011 and 2012 fusion front end looks better than the Aston front. I also think the 2010/11 mustang is the coolest front end, just needs the 2013 lighting. They made it more squinty to combat the new Camaro. Only for those two model years!

Always loved the turn signals on these. 1st LED turnsignals I ever saw at the time they were new. Also Jaguar s-type look :)

Definitely. The ‘10 Mustang was a throwback to the original, whereas the new one looks arguably more Falcon than Mustang...and as for the ‘Gillette’ Fusions I don’t really have an opinion either way. The old one looked more Fusion IMO whereas the new one definitely has a more Euro Mondeo style (which makes sense since they’re shared now...)
